As of late I have been rethinking my speech patterns, I have been asking myself
does what I say match what I believe?
Is what I say in the
easily repeatable Christianese
really in the Bible or
is it something that I have mindlessly repeated
because someone else has spoken it.
As I have been contemplating I have come to the realization that as Christians we live in an insular culture. We use words and catch phrases that are exclusive to our way of thinking and mode of life.

I use the word blessed which to most in the Christian culture is an indication
 that circumstances are good.
Something wonderful has happened.
Such as..............
a baby being born
perfect couple award
kids getting good grades
more money in the form of a job,
financial security 401K
or a gift of cash or some other material item
lots of friendships,
a social calendar that rivals a movie star
a vacation,
new furniture
yeah...all the good stuff right??
That indicates blessed....things are flowing in a
++positive direction++
Oh, this must be an indication that
God is pleased with us!
We are under the "blessing" we live in "favor"!

So as a Christian what condition are we in when...
a loved one dies
separation or divorce
kids failing school or skipping school
our car is wrecked
we must give up our home
no retirement
we lose our job
our health or a loved one's health is in jeopardy
relationships are broken
-negative direction-
Does that mean we are out of the "will of God"
we are NOT blessed
we are doing something wrong
our bad choices have resulted in punishment

Living here:

this looks much like the place that my husband and I lived in for the first 3 years of our marriage. It had a leaky roof and no central heat...
we heated our home by turning on the oven and propping the door open.
I remember inviting a couple from church to dinner when we lived here. The couple entered our home and I could tell by the look on their face they were less than impressed. In fact their stay was very short as they looked around at their surroundings. Shortly after the dinner date they quickly moved on to pursue another couple's friendship in the church.
We must have looked
like we were not going
"anywhere" in the + direction.

or Living Here:
which is where we landed
after we lost our house that we loved
and lived in for 16 years.
By the looks of this beautiful home it must be an obvious sign of us becoming blessed
and God's favor upon us.
Although no one knew how we ended up there,
the pain all mixed in with
God's grace and wisdom.
That the entire process of moving to this home
was one of shame, fear and definitely
a few years of the - negatives.

I have pleasantly discovered 2 things:
that no matter the circumstance
you or I may find our self in

1. God's thoughts and plans for us are good

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and NOT disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

2. Jesus IS the Blessing

"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." Hebrews 6:19

No matter our circumstances the true
Blessing is knowing Jesus
we are blessed with HIM to bless others with Him
"Blessed to be a Blessing."
