I am joining a group of ladies at "Five Minute Friday" where we write about a given
word for 5 minutes. This weeks word is.........small.

As I sit tonight and ponder "small" I think that most things start out small. 10 years ago as a youth pastor I had a vision of young people in our local public school leading a prayer group. At that time I had a young girl who had left our private Christian school to attend the public school. I longed for her to know that even though she was leaving the "nest" that she was loved and cared for. I called the local school to find out if I could visit her during lunch. When I called, the secretary answered and said "no, there are no visitors allowed on campus." I was surprised and I questioned her, told her I knew her family, what if I got permission from her family to visit. The answer was still a resounding and emphatic "no". That "no"birthed a vision to see the high school open up to community involvement. To allow students to have thriving clubs and community groups within their halls. That small "seed" of vision propelled by that "no" would lead me to begin to act in small ways over a 5 year period. When I was in the school building at night teaching a parenting class I would pray as the Holy Spirit would lead me to over the lockers in the hall. I would speak scripture as I drove my car in the parking lot to meet with various counselors and administration. Those acts were small but full of faith. In that same school there are now mentoring groups for at risk youth, a prayer group that meets in the morning before school, a snack bag program to feed youth over the weekend, youth pastors that are invited on campus to help monitor students. The vision that God gave me started small as a "seed", but it is the persistence and obedience that caused it to grow.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
Though it is the smallest of all seeds, when it grows, it is the largest of plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” Matthew 13:32
