I am joining with Lisa Jo Baker and her community of writers at "Five Minute Friday". We write unedited for 5 minutes about a word. The word this week is "tree".

The first tree that I think of is a beautiful oak tree. It was a grand oak with large branches that stood in our front yard. It was our guardian and greeter of our home. I remember the first time I noticed the tree was when my husband and I lived up the road from the tree in a tiny single wide 1973 mobile home. This mobile home had no central heat and the roof leaked AND  it was OURS.....but the tree had caught my eye. It was on a hill next to a single level ranch style home on Ellis Rd. This home was at the peak of a hill and we would pass it every day as we would zoom down the hill to work. I dreamed about that tree, the view and the single level home that looked so cozy. Dreamed about how lovely it would be to look out and see the tree. Five years went by and God gave us the opportunity to buy the property with the tree. We moved in to the ranch style home, our first home. Within the first year of moving into the home I bore our first child after trying for 6 years to have children. In God's grace we had two more children and we happily lived in the home for 16 years until God's grace and mercy moved us on. The tree is the one pictured in our family photo.

This photo was taken before we moved almost two years ago. I miss this tree, seeing it naked in the fall and full of life in the spring. I miss seeing it as I would drive up the hill catching a peak of it and knowing we were minutes from home.
It still watches over the home on Ellis Rd. and I admit once in a while I still visit it.
When I do,  I am thankful for the memories that were created in the shadow
of the Tree.
