His story became my story because of one woman. My mom. My mom grew up in a home of brokenness. Her own mother had been married three times. My mother's childhood was riddled with  the pain of divorce and when she married my dad she made a decision that divorce was not an option. In 1966 two years after my parents were married. She pioneered with my father from southern California to the tiny town of Colton, Oregon, population, tiny, about 3,000. They bought a farmhouse on seven acres with some money that my mother inherited from my great grandmother and settled down to life in the country.
My mom, dad, me in my dad's arms and my baby sister.

My mom tells me the story of how she was so lonely, a woman 1,000 miles away from her family, with two little ones my sister and I and a husband who was working long hours in sales. A dear sweet lady from across the street, her name was Judy, invited my mom to a Bible study she held in her home. The Bible study became my mom's link to friendships and the connection that would change her life and mine, accepting Jesus into her heart. My mom attended the little tiny church in the local grange hall that her friends went to. My sister and I wearing our homemade dresses and holding my mom's hand would attend every Sunday. I remember going to prayer meetings, church potlucks and Sunday school all with out my dad.

My sister Debbe, and I in our home made Easter dresses.

My mom did not have shame that her husband did not go, as so many other women did. She was proud as she stepped in the doors and grateful for friendships and most of all grateful for Jesus. As I think back I remember the times I gave my heart to Jesus around the age of  six and when I chose to be water baptized as a teen. When I began to date I desired a man who loved Jesus more than I did and I was blessed enough to find him. So His story... became my mom's story......became my story and became our story. My husband and I have been married for 25 years, have three children and have passed His story on to them.
My husband and our three girls.

My mother's choice so long ago to choose Jesus brought life to me and my future.

Jesus said." ....I have come that they may have life and life abundantly" John 10:10
