Lately I have been contemplating how long I have been working with teens. I have worked with teens for 20+ years. In the early years teaching at a private school, working in youth ministry and  serving with my husband as a youth pastor. In the last seven years working for a non profit that provides services for youth and families in my community. Some people have made comments to me , " you are too old to be working with youth", "don't you think you would spend your time in a better way by helping adults?" "do kids want to still be around you". The crazy thing is that they still do. I was meeting with a group of teens last year and they asked me if they could have a bar b que at my house. I didn't suggest it, they did.  People that seem to think there is an age limit for those who encourage teens, really don't know teens. The teens of today aren't looking for ipods, gift cards, video games. They are looking for authenticity, vulnerability, time and relationship. I have never seen working with youth as a waste of my time. In fact I always feel honored that I get to spend time with them.
Here is a photo of some teens that I have had the privilege to work with:

I remember each and every one of them. They are now adults and I have wonderful memories of the time spent with them. They have been to YWAM, ( Youth With a Mission), University of Portland, Portland Bible College, Clackamas Community College, serve in their church and work dilligently at their jobs. I am so proud to have known them, and still do know them. The truth is young people are our future. They are the workforce, the voters, the leaders, the parents of the next generation.

So I say adults, we are never too old to encourage a teen. Your words can bring hope.
Sharing your story with a teen can bring His story into their life.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future"
