One of the wonderful things that my husband and I get to do together is teach a parent education curriculum called Strengthening Families. I love this class because parents and their youth (ages 10 - 14) come to the class and learn together. The curriculum teaches awesome skills like: how to have family meetings, identifying family values, teaching youth rules and responsibility lots of cool stuff. We are currently facilitating a class and because it is a small class we decided that we would bring our 3 girls. Here they are; Hannah age 12, Bethany age 17 and Gabrielle age 15 respectively.
They are all of the teen age... so they qualify right? So I thought hmmmmm..... this will be good for them they can interact with the other kids, get to know some people, maybe learn something? As we settled the families in for the family session. I am explaining that each family will complete a family shield that represents their family values. It has always been such a great project for the families to complete. It brings connection and bonding. I have always loved this part of the class. UNTIL I took my own children..... So as the other families were creating their wonderful projects. My husband and I are chatting to the families, going around listening to them talk about their values while they create their shield and our 3 girls came up with this........

Realize as our 3 girls are choosing pictures and drawing pictures they are laughing hilariously so much one of the families is totally focused on them and says out loud "boy you guys sure know how to fun." and the family has joined in with them . Well at first glance this shield doesn't look like much but as you get closer you realize what all of the laughing and "fun making" was about. Focus on the large square with all of the drawings and it becomes very clear.
The person with greenish yellow hair is my husband. Notice he has BIG muscles on his arms. My husband always makes jokes about his arms being like "mountains". Obviously they drew themselves next to my husband and they drew me! Guess who I am...???? The lady with the BIG, cavernous, mouth. Hannah claims she didn't mean to make the mouth so huge. But I'm not buying it. I look like I am yelling at everyone. So I have determined something about my girls this is their new label....
Maybe they shouldn't come with me to work. Maybe I don't need them to meet new people. It doesn't matter how old our kids are, they can find ways to embarrass us. I have learned it is better to laugh about things, not take life too seriously and have fun. Although it was embarrassing, I did laugh, cause it was funny and one of our family values is to have FUN.
"A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing...."Proverbs 17:22 AMP

May we learn to have fun and bring healing in all that we do.
