This weekend I went to Molalla High School's graduation. My first ever. I 've lived here for a looooong time and have never gone to one. The reason is that it is a "ticketed" event. Each graduate gets only 8 tickets per family. This year the principal gave Todos Juntos (the agency I work for) 2 VIP tickets. Very cool. Definitely the Lord's favor. So I and my dear coworker sat in the VIP section.

We got to sit RIGHT behind the graduates.

I say "dear coworker" because my coworker is also my friend and was my friend before she became my coworker. The story of Susana and her daughter is one of healing and restoration. I have been granted permission to tell it here.  When I became the Prevent Net Site Coordinator 2 years ago I first met Susana. She is a beautiful lady inside and out. She and her daughter were going through some rough patches personally and her daughter was struggling academically. Susana is latino and her daughter has had learning challenges. Last year their family moved from Sandy to Molalla. In the transition her daughter lost academic credits and was in jeopardy of graduating. I met Susana when she was in the midst of all of this. She felt that the school was not able to give enough help to Latino families. There was no one on staff that understood the cultural challenges that Latino families had. The stress of the academic challenges drove her and her daughter apart and her daughter moved out. It broke Susana's heart but our mutual faith in the Lord brought us together and  we prayed for her daughter and for restoration of the relationship. To make a LOOOONG story short through grant funding and partnership between Todos Juntos and  Molalla School District the new MHS Principal Randy Dalton offered some money and an office for Susana to become the Hispanic Liaison to youth and families at Molalla High School. So the frustrations that once plagued Susana, now through God's help have  become an opportunity to help other families that were in her situation. She is on staff at MHS and meets with parents and youth as well as hosts hispanic parent nights each trimester to help youth and their families navigate the American educational system. I am so proud! Susana and her daughter have a restored relationship and Her daughter graduated from MHS. God is good......
